Route through the Nature of Beturia
Ecosystems Diversity

The environmental framework of Beturia is, without a doubt, one of its biggest attractions, because it combines, in such a quite small land, very diverse ecosystems which follow in perfect harmony for the astonishment and rejoicing of visitors.

Beturia. Celtic and Templar Lands

In the south of Badajoz, the lands of Beturia, once dwelled by the mythical Celtic people, is presented today as an integral destination with multiple proposals for the concerned traveler.

More that twenty centuries ago, the Vettones and Veturi, direct descendants of the mythical Celtic warriors arrived from Central and Northern Europe, occupied the lands of Southern Extremadura. Together with a great part of the Andévalo of Huelva, the today Badajoz Regions of Tentudía, Sierra Suroeste, Zafra-Río Bodión, Tierra de Barros and Campiña Sur formed then an homogeneous land which they named Beturia. Nowadays, Beturia, the south gate of Extremadura, is presented to the traveler as a new tourist product, a deeply Extremaduran destination, but with its own idiosyncrasy inside the region. Nature in all its magnificence, Beturia has become a true example of sustainable development. Land of Meadows and vines, the precipitous mountain ranges and fertile countryside, the regions that form it, also presume of a rich history, expressed in its numerous castles and fortresses, in churches, convents and monasteries, in stately houses and palaces. Nature, arts and tradition for the delight of the five senses.

Between the secular traditions and the folklore of the zone, it really highlights the rite of the slaughter of pigs, pure popular knowledge transmitted patiently from fathers to sons.
